Scholarships and Awards:

Stephen Taber Undergraduate Scholarship - The Department of Earth and Ocean Sciences offers scholarships to selected majors in Geological Sciences and Geophysics.  The Stephen Taber Undergraduate Scholarships provide $500 per year plus a tuition reduction for out-of-state students, and can be renewed for up to four years for students who maintain a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA and remain undergraduate majors in Geological Sciences or Geophysics.  Both incoming students and current majors with a minimum 3.0 GPA are encouraged to apply; the application deadline for the academic year is April 1. Download Application

Dr. Mack Gipson Scholarship - The Department of Earth and Ocean Sciences offers a scholarship for students from groups traditionally under-represented in the geosciences.  This Departmental scholarship is awarded to eligible students with the goal of:  1)  exposing, attracting, encouraging and assisting interested students in becoming geoscientists;  2)  increasing representation of students from groups traditionally under-represented in the geosciences; and  3)  increasing recruitment and retention of students from groups traditionally under-represented at the university, especially in the sciences.  The Dr. Mack Gipson Scholarship provides $500 per year plus a tuition reduction for out-of-state students, and can be renewed for up to four years for students who maintain a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA and remain undergraduate majors in Geological Sciences or Geophysics.  Both incoming students and current majors with a minimum 3.0 GPA are encouraged to apply; the application deadline for the academic year is April 1.  Download Application

Joseph R. LeConte Outstanding Junior Award - The Joseph R. LeConte Outstanding Junior Award is presented to a junior in GeoScience who has an outstanding academic record in the School of Earth, Ocean and Environment.

Joseph R. LeConte Outstanding Senior Award - The Joseph R. LeConte Outstanding Senior Award is presented to a senior in GeoScience who has an outstanding academic record in the School of Earth, Ocean and Environment. 

College of Arts & Sciences Rising Senior Award - The College of Arts & Sciences Rising Senior Award is presented each year to a rising senior with an outstanding academic record in all areas of achievement (including a cumulative GPA of 3.500 or higher). 

The Distinguished Academic Achievement Award -This award is given on an occasional basis to students with senior standing in the School of Earth, Ocean and Environment who have established a distinguished record of academic achievement.

American Institute of Professional Geologists National Scholarship Program

The purpose of this award is to assist students with college education costs and to promote student participation in the American Institute of Professional Geologists (AIPG). 
Eligibility: Declared major in Geology or Geo-Science; sophomores or above; AIPG membership

American Mineralogist Undergraduate Award

The Mineralogical Society of America's American Mineralogist Undergraduate (AMU) Award program recognizes outstanding students who have shown an interest and ability in the discipline of mineralogy.  
Eligibility: departmental nomination (speak with your advisor or the Undergraduate Director)

Association of Environmental and Engineering Geologists (AEG) Scholarships

The AEG offers a variety of scholarships, including one to offset the costs of field camp, to students interested in engineering geology, environmental geology and hydrogeology.
